With Vellox connected to your AI assistant, you ask questions in plain language of your own business systems – and get the answer as a table, an analysis or a finished Excel file. Here are two questions that show how far you get in under a minute.

**In short**

- You write the way you speak – no SQL, no report requests.

- Vellox's semantic model makes sure the figures are right, whether the data comes from Business Central, Jeeves, Monitor, Pyramid, Fortnox, Visma or another system.

- Question 1 gives you the factual base. Question 2 turns it into a working document.

- The result lands in Excel – where you can keep adjusting.

## How to prompt

A good prompt does three things: it says **what** you want, **how** it should be limited and in **what format** you want the answer. The assistant fills in the rest from the semantic model – the calendar, the customer hierarchy, the currency and which sales measure applies. The connection is built on [Model Context Protocol (MCP)](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/docs/getting-started/intro), an open standard for connecting AI assistants to external systems. How you can [prompt your business data with AI](https://vellox.se/ai) in Claude or ChatGPT is covered on our AI page.

### Question 1: your largest customers

> Who are my 100 largest customers?
>
> — Example prompt

No time period, no definition of "largest". The assistant interprets the question against the model, picks rolling twelve months and net revenue, and tells you which assumptions it made – so you can correct it with a single word if you meant something else.

Back comes a ranked list: customer name, sales over the last twelve months, share of total revenue and the development against the previous year. If you would rather see margin than revenue, or just one district, you only have to say so in the next sentence.

### Question 2: turn the list into a budget

Now you build on the same selection. The assistant remembers which hundred customers you are talking about – you do not have to paste the list again.

> Can you help me with a budget for these customers? The budget should be spread across the coming 12 months based on last year's sales in the corresponding month. The budget should increase by 5% across the board and I want to be able to adjust the budget for each customer in an Excel format.
>
> — Example prompt

That prompt contains everything needed: the selection (these customers), the distribution (the coming twelve months), the basis (the corresponding month last year), the rule (+5%) and the delivery (adjustable Excel).

A couple of seconds later you have a file with one row per customer and one column per month. The seasonal pattern from the previous year is preserved, so July looks like July instead of a twelfth of the annual volume. Furthest to the left sits the growth percentage as its own column – overwrite it for an individual customer and the totals recalculate immediately.

If you then want 8% on the key accounts and 3% on the rest, that is a follow-up question, not a new project.

## Why it works

The difference from asking an AI outright is that Vellox places a semantic model between the assistant and your systems. A semantic model gathers tables, relationships and measures in a layer that reports and analyses read from ([Microsoft Learn on semantic models](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-datasets-understand)). The measures are defined once – net revenue is net revenue, regardless of which business system the row comes from – and the permissions follow along. The assistant does not guess. It calculates on the same figures the management team sees in its report.

The same applies when the data comes from several places – see how it works when [consolidating several companies in different business systems](https://vellox.se/blog/konsolidera-flera-bolag-olika-affarssystem). See the [modules](https://vellox.se/moduler) and [integrations](https://vellox.se/integrationer) for which systems can be connected, and [10 questions you can ask your own business data](https://vellox.se/blog/10-fragor-till-din-affarsdata) for more examples to copy straight off. ## Try it yourself

Take the two questions above, swap "100" for your own number and run them against your data. If you would like to see it on your own figures first – [get in touch](https://vellox.se/kontakta-oss) and we will book a demo. We can also show you how easily you read the budget into Vellox and follow it up against the actuals.

## Frequently asked questions about prompting system data

### Do I need to know SQL or DAX?

No. You write the question in plain language, just as you would ask a colleague. The assistant translates it into queries against the semantic model.

### How do I know the figures are correct?

The measures are defined once in the model and are the same as in your reports. The assistant also states which period, which measure and which selection it used, so you can check the assumptions.

### Can everyone see every customer?

No. Permissions follow from the model. A salesperson who only sees their own district in the reports only gets their own district in the answer.

### Which business systems does it work with?

Among others [Business Central](https://vellox.se/integrationer/microsoft-business-central-saas), [Jeeves ERP](https://vellox.se/integrationer/jeeves-erp), [Monitor ERP](https://vellox.se/integrationer/monitor-erp), [Pyramid](https://vellox.se/integrationer/pyramid-business-studio), Fortnox and [Visma Business](https://vellox.se/integrationer/visma-business). Data from several companies and several systems can sit in the same model.

### Can I change the budget afterwards?

Yes. The Excel file has an adjustable growth percentage per customer, and you can just as easily overwrite individual monthly amounts. You can also ask the assistant for a new version with different rules.

### Can the budget be read back into the system?

Yes. The completed file can be read into Vellox and followed up against the actuals, so that budget and actual sales are shown side by side in the same report.
